Builders Arms Hotel
Sundays at the Builders Arms are all about good food, good company and the game on in the background. The rotisserie roast is the star of the show—slow-cooked, full of flavour and plated up with all the right sides. Grab a seat in the Bistro, settle into the courtyard or head straight to the front bar, where the Guinness pours from 12 PM and the footy plays on the big screen all day. There’s more to the menu too, including crumbed fish sandwiches and a standout slow-cooked lamb gyros. And if you’ve still got room? The sticky date pudding with butterscotch caramel and orange cream is worth sticking around for.

Fitzroy Town Hall Hotel
There’s something timeless about a proper Sunday roast by the fire—and Fitzroy Town Hall Hotel delivers just that. This well-loved Johnston Street pub pairs tartan cushions and timber floors with the hum of friendly conversation and the occasional wagging tail (yes, it’s dog friendly). Each Sunday from noon, a rotating roast special takes centre stage: think lamb roast, garlic mash and wilted greens, or pork belly, caramelised fig and potato gratin. Served from midday and available until sold out, it’s a hearty, no-fuss meal that’s earned its place as one of the best-value Sunday roasts in Melbourne. No bookings required—just turn up for good food, a cracking wine list and a warm, familiar welcome.

Punters Club
Fitzroy’s Sunday roast fans are well looked after at The Punters Club, with generous plates rolling out from the kitchen midday onwards. When we visited recently, the pork roast was delicious—tender, full of flavour and served alongside lamb and beef options. The weekly menu changes, but it’s always hearty and comforting, ideal with a pint or a glass of wine in hand. From 3 PM, the Punters Club Jazz Band brings piping hot trad tunes to match the mood. We nabbed one of the comfy booths and soaked up the fantastic atmosphere, with the band putting on a fab show—and even the toddler was feeling the tunes, happily bopping along. If the weather’s kind, the rooftop is a great pre-music perch, with Soul of Fitzroy taking over downstairs as the night rolls on.

The Rose
A true neighbourhood favourite, The Rose has been part of Fitzroy’s fabric for over 150 years. Known for its welcoming atmosphere, loyal regulars and pooch-friendly front bar, it’s the kind of place where you settle in and stay a while. The kitchen serves up classic pub fare with care, using local suppliers and Victorian produce wherever possible. In the cooler months, their Sunday roast makes a much-anticipated appearance—think generous portions, quality meats and delicious sides. The lamb roast with potatoes, pumpkin, green beans, Yorkshire pudding and gravy hit the spot when we visited, especially paired with one of the 16 beers on tap. The Terminus Hotel
With its mix of heritage charm and contemporary style, The Terminus has been part of the Fitzroy North landscape since the mid-1800s. Today, it’s a welcoming spot for families, footy fans and friends catching up over a good meal. The Sunday Spread is designed for sharing—and when we stopped by with friends, it was generous enough to keep everyone happy. Served as a roast for four with all the trimmings, it changes weekly and showcases seasonal produce. It’s hearty, comforting and perfect for a slow afternoon with a drink in hand. We sat outside, and the steady rumble of passing trains proved unexpectedly perfect entertainment for the young children in the party, leaving the grown-ups to relax and enjoy the meal.
