From the latest events and dining spots to local businesses, creative projects and lifestyle ideas, it’s a space to celebrate the people, places and experiences that make Fitzroy feel truly local and endlessly interesting.

Here you’ll find a regularly updated events calendar to keep you in the loop with what’s on, and a local business directory connecting you with close to 750 independent Fitzroy shops, venues and services that shape the neighbourhood.

Whether you’re after a great meal, a night of live music, a classic pub trivia session, a gallery exhibition or something new to explore, you’ll find it here.

How It Started

Fitzroy Local began on long walks around the neighbourhood with my toddler son, with plenty of coffee stops, small discoveries and friendly chats along the way. What started as a way to keep track of our favourite spots soon grew into something bigger: a guide for anyone who loves this pocket of Melbourne and wants to experience it more fully. Alongside this, I also run Good Work Digital, a Fitzroy-based studio helping small businesses show up online and work a little smarter behind the scenes.

Since launching, I’ve created and curated most of what you see on the site, from in-depth blog posts and event round-ups to interviews with local business owners and new additions to the directory. Everything published here is based on first-hand knowledge, local research and conversations with the people behind Fitzroy’s most interesting places. It’s fuelled by a genuine love for the neighbourhood and a belief that good local information should be accurate, useful and easy to find.
