A trip to Brunswick Street Oval, affectionately known as “BSO” to locals, is what makes footy so great, and what makes Melbourne and Fitzroy great places to live, work and play.
The smell of the ground, the loyal fans, the passionate players and of course a sensational BBQ all add to the atmosphere. BSO is also home to Hipster Hill, a great spot to watch the match and cheer on the local club.
This Friday will be a special day with Fitzroy hosting Williamstown CYMS, with a moving ANZAC Day ceremony before the first bounce at 2 PM.
The bar will also be open and serving Young Henry’s special Fitzroy Football Club Draught, brewed in proud support of the club.
Fitzroy Football Club plays in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (the VAFA) in Premier B division, a high standard of local footy. The club is the local continuation of the former AFL club that merged with Brisbane in the 1990s.
The best thing about footy at Fitzroy?
It’s free and you can have a kick on the ground at half time or join the huddle to hear what the coaches are saying.
It’s genuine. It’s grassroots, and it’s local.
